Currently based in Zell am See, Austria, I run Studio Kai Rump, where I support startups, agencies, SMEs, and large enterprises in building product ideas from scratch — often acting as an external design force for companies without in-house design teams. My consulting services span early concept development, sketch-driven ideation, CAD modeling, photorealistic visualization, and design strategy. With a hands-on approach and a strong sense for visual storytelling, I am a trusted partner for holistic product development.

Since early 2025, I have also partnered with BatchOne to provide more comprehensive guidance for startups throughout their product development journey.

In parallel, I build a growing social media presence by sharing insights into my creative process and inspiring a global community of designers and creatives.

My professional career began in 2018 at Sonos Inc. in California, where I contributed to the development of the Sonos Arc and helped define a design language that would go on to influence future product generations. Before going independent in 2023, I worked as an Industrial Designer at Studio F. A. Porsche, where I led and executed design projects across various sectors — supporting external clients and contributing to the in-house product portfolio of Porsche Design and Porsche AG.

With more than seven years of industry experience, I have built a strong portfolio of successful partnerships and internationally recognized designs. My work has been featured in multiple publications and honored by prestigious design awards such as the German Design Award, Red Dot Design Award, and iF Design Award.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from the University of Wuppertal, where I graduated with honors and was named a German Design Award Newcomer Finalist in 2020 for my portfolio and graduation project IO, an astrophotography system.
